We had to say goodbye to our Linus this weekend. It was unexpected, but Linus was always unpredictable.
He was having a great week. He got long walks, he snuck cookies off the counter, he howled and played like a puppy. He even got to sleep in the bed a few times.
He always wanted to “go.” Sitting around was not for him. Go outside, go for a walk, go for a drive, go in the basement, whatever. He needed a goal constantly. And if we weren’t going enough, he let you (and the neighbors) know.
Sometimes that goal would just be snuggling by his people. Need a dog by you? He’d plop his body haphazardly next to you on the couch. If you don’t? He’d do it anyway. There was nothing meticulous about him.
We’re really going to miss his huge personality. But we take comfort that he did not suffer from a long illness or decline of old age. In fact, I think he just refused to age. He was a total puppy for his 11 years.
